Jackie Isard (BA Hons) SBA Fellow CBM ASBA
Botanical and Nature Artist • Tutor • Author

Jackie is a botanical artist living in the UK. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design in 1989 and had a long career in this field. In 2013 she studied garden design and was awarded a Distinction. It was from here she entered the botanical world, 2015. She is a Fellow member of the SBA (Society of Botanical Artists) and has won two awards through exhibiting with them. She is a self-taught artist passionate about flowering plants, wildflowers and the natural world. At present, she is preparing an exhibition for RHS in 2022. She is painting wet meadow wildflower plants. In her work, she spends a great deal of time researching and studying subjects to ensure the painting is true to botanical form. Painting the beauty of decaying plants is also one of her fortes. She enjoys sharing her knowledge through teaching at venues and online. In 2020 she wrote her first book.

Awards and achievements:
  • In 2016 Jackie was accepted by the Royal Horticultural Society to exhibit with them.
  • In 2017, Jackie was awarded her first accolade by the SBA, a CBM (Certificate of Botanical Merit) for her painting ‘Vessels of Life’. 
  • In 2017 Jackie began teaching Botanical and Nature watercolour painting at venues local to Bristol and Gloucestershire.
  • In 2018 her painting of Origanum marjorana was featured in the book ‘The Illustrated College Herbal – Plants from the Pharmacopoea Londinensis of 1618’ organized and published by Jane Knowles, Henry Oakley and Gillian Barlow. 
  • In 2018 she started to launch online courses which has been very successful.
  • In 2019 Jackie was awarded full membership with the SBA becoming an SBA Fellow. She was also awarded the Margaret Granger Memorial Award for her Faded Protea neriifolia ‘Snowcrest’ painting at the SBA exhibition, Mall Galleries, London.
  • In 2020, Jackie wrote a book on colour mixing for the botanical artist 'Watercolour Mixing Techniques for the Botanical Artist' that was published by The Crowood Press in March 2021. It is available from all major bookshops, Amazon and worldwide. It is also available as an e-book. She has also started a series of little mini-books all about botanical watercolour for beginners. The first was self published in November 2020, 'The Little Book of Watercolour for Beginners Botanical Artists'. It is only available directly from Jackie.
