Sharon Birzer
    Sharon Birzer is an illustrator whose work is inspired by observations made in the diverse ecosystems of our planet earth. She  currently lives and works in the Puget Sound area. She has taught illustration at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle Pacific University, and The National Botanical Gardens in Maui.
    Working directly with curators at the Seattle Art Museum she created illustrations and custom maps that are permanently part of the Museumʼs signage. Her illustrations have been included in books and publications. She worked with Curators at the Burke Museum of Natural History on arachnid illustrations for a publication. Her art work has been exhibited throughout the Northwest and around the country. Birzer holds a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts and an MFA from the University of Washington, and completed the UW Natural Science Illustration Program.

Marcy Gordon

Dorota Haber-Lehigh
    Dorota's art and teaching explore the ephemeral beauty of nature, magic of native plants and human connection with plants. Born in Poland, Dorota loves foraging for berries, mushroom hunting, field sketching, and collecting specimens. Dorota holds a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from the Society of Botanical Artists in London. She also has degrees in Art and International Studies with a focus on indigenous cultures, and a master’s degree in teaching.  She authored two ethnobotanical coloring books.

Jan Hurd
    Jan began painting botanical subjects when she took her first ever watercolor class at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture from Louise Smith. Since then she has attended many workshops and classes with other accomplished botanical artists in watercolor and color pencil. She continues to relish the challenge of creating a good botanical design with accuracy and skill. She has enjoyed membership in the Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists from its beginning and Jan was the editor of the quarterly newsletter for many years. Most of her work can be seen on her website: www.janhurd.com, and at ETSY.com.  Her work occasionally appears in shows at The Gallery on Bainbridge Island.

Jackie Isard - SBA Fellow CBM ASBA GM
Botanical and Nature Artist • Tutor • Author
    Jackie is an award-winning botanical artist living in the UK. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design in 1989 and had a long career in this field. In 2013 she studied garden design and was awarded a Distinction. It was from here she entered the botanical world. She is a Fellow member of the SBA (Society of Botanical Artists) and has won two awards through exhibiting with them. She is a self-taught artist passionate about flowering plants, wildflowers and the natural world. In 2022 she entered her exhibition of ‘Wet Meadow Wildflower ~ their pollinators and as foodplants’ to the  RHS and won a Gold medal. In her work, she spends a great deal of time researching and studying subjects to ensure the painting is true to botanical form. Awards and achievements:
  • In 2023 Jackie will be teaming up with Chris Thorogood of Oxford Botanic Garden to paint rare native species.
  • In 2022 Jackie won an RHS Gold medal.
  • In 2020 Jackie wrote a book about colour mixing called ‘Watercolour Mixing Techniques for Botanical Artists’ published by Crowood Press in March 2021. Also in 2020 Jackie started to write a small mini-book series. The first one launched in November ‘The Little Book of Watercolour for Beginner Botanical Artists’

Janet Kaseda

Antoinette Luchessa
    A Pacific Coast native, Antoinette has lived the majority of her life in the Pacific Northwest.  A perennial student, her current focus is botanical art and illustration and she is a student at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle.  Her previous education includes a BA in Art as well as a Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh.  Her current focus is on native plants of the Pacific Northwest with an emphasis in 3-D paper botanical renderings, watercolor, and pen and ink illustrations.  She lives with her family and a spirited cat in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by native plants in their garden.

Kathleen McKeehen
    Kathleen took her first botanical painting class in 1995, followed by the Natural Science Illustration program at the University of California Santa Cruz. The program’s internship took her to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, where she drew botanical plates. Since then she has freelanced for a variety of clients, including Organic Gardening, The Herb Companion, Gardener’s Companion, and others.  Kathleen teaches botanical and natural science drawing and painting through a number of venues in the Seattle area, including Gage Academy, the U.W. Center for Urban Horticulture, and the Winslow Art Center on Bainbridge Island.  Her botanical paintings have hung in a number of shows around the country and in Canada. She is a member of the ASBA, as well as the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.

Deborah Montgomerie
    Deborah lives on Whidbey Island, a haven for artists and writers. She completed a Distance Learning Course with the SBA (Society of Botanical Artists) in 2015, and is now a Fellow of the SBA. She is also a member of the ASBA (American Society of Botanical Artists) and the GNSI (Guild of Natural Science Illustrators).  Deborah particularly loves to paint Heirloom fruits and vegetables.  She mainly works in watercolor, graphite and pen & ink.

Soojeong (Crystal) Shin
    Crystal was born and grew up in Seoul, Korea. She moved to Seattle where she found her love for nature and botanical art. Crystal is especially drawn to capturing the intricate details and splendid colors in flowers, and nature, which fills her with an appreciation for the beauty that each subject has, and gratitude to the one who created it. She likes to work on achieving color intensity and fine details with a delicate but vivid touch. Crystal's favorite mediums are color pencil and watercolor.
    Crystal has studied botanical watercolor painting with instructor Kathleen McKeehen at Gage Academy of Art. She is now taking the Natural Science Illustration certificate program at the University of Washington, exploring various natural subjects and techniques, to seek growth and opportunities as an artist. 
    Crystal hopes her work opens people's eyes to a deeper appreciation for the authentic beauty of nature that each creature carries in its form and color.

Carol Stanley

Margaret Trent
   A native of Scotland, Margaret Trent has spent the last 30 years in the Pacific Northwest where she rekindled her interest in botanical and bird illustration. She holds a BS (Hons) in Biological Sciences from Edinburgh’s Napier University. Margaret is a member of several organizations focused on botanical and natural history art and illustration. Colored pencil on drafting film is a favorite medium. Her work has been juried into exhibits both nationally and internationally. Margaret's work Rhododendron cinnabarinum is included as part of the permanent Florilegium collection at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Scotland.

    Genevieve Wanucha is a Seattle-based botanical artist working in watercolor, color pencil, and graphite. She is a board member of the Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists chapter of ASBA and serves as Newsletter Chair.
