PNBA 2019 Sketchbook Exchange
Shepherded by members Carol Stanley, Theresa Ream, and Joan Provo-Clinkston, PNBA members successfully completed their first Sketchbook Exchange! For those not familiar with a Sketchbook Exchange, a sketchbook, either created or purchased, is exchanged -- passed from participant to participant in an exchange group, with each participant adding artwork (a sketch, drawing, painting, etc.), until all participants contribute to the sketchbook. It is then returned to the owner. To keep it organized, the exchanges are passed to participants in a specific order and at regular intervals, usually monthly. The sketchbooks provide a chance to be inspired by other members, work on your own skills, and/or try something new. When complete, the participants have a wonderful treasure, filled with artwork by some amazing botanical artists and friends.
Our sketchbook exchange started with several sketchbook-making sessions at Carol Stanley's home, guided by Carol's experience with OBA's sketchbook exchange. We were fortunate to have support from member Carol Maurer, owner of Fine Impressions Gallery, who provided and cut the material for all the sketchbook covers at no cost. Sketchbook participants provided their favorite decorative paper for their sketchbook covers. The participants added their name and contact information along with some artwork to their sketchbooks, then the sketchbooks began their journeys. After many months, much beautiful artwork, and a small pandemic-induced delay, all the sketchbooks have returned to their owners to be enjoyed and treasured.
Thank you to Carol, Theresa, and Joan, for making this a wonderful experience!
