Botanical Drawing in colored pencils - Camellia weekend, Crystal Shin
March 25 & 26, 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Washington Native Plant Society

The camellia is amongst the first colorful flowers to appear in the urban spring habitat. This colorful shrub offers wonderful opportunities to draw the flower structure and practice with color to obtain the texture and color of interest. Crystal will show how to draw rounded petals, the delicate texture of flowers, and the complex stamens. This shrub, with evergreen leaves, also provides a strong education on how to draw leaves and obtain that evergreen shine. Crystal will provide plenty of demonstrations and guidance on your work; you will learn how to draw veins more realistically, as well as different aspects and positions of leaves that are often challenging to draw.

Some drawing experiences will be helpful, but beginners are welcome as well.

Presentations by Various Botanical Artists, hosted by Julia Trickey (via Zoom)
At the start of 2021 Julia Trickey began hosting talks by fellow botanical artists (via Zoom) as a way of supporting them through the Pandemic, as well as bringing their work and enthusiasm for botanical art to a wider audience. The talks have focused on a range of topics such as painting techniques, ongoing projects, sketchbook work and commercial illustration.  These talks have proved popular so Julia will continue to host them in 2022.

There is a charge for the webinars, however, the first session of the New Year (January 6th, 2022), which focuses on the best bits of the 2021 talks, will be free in order to give those new to this series a chance to get a feel for what they are like. You can watch the webinars live or have access to a recording for a couple of days or so afterwards, therefore time zones are not an issue.
